Which level actually gets you there?
Different goals need different levels — reading the Quran with real understanding is a different bar than following a news headline.
Is there an official way to measure your level?
Not in the way Goethe or DELF measure German or French. There's no single, widely recognized CEFR-native exam for Modern Standard Arabic. The closest real options are the ALPT (Arabic Language Proficiency Test) and the Hamza Test — both real assessments, but neither is CEFR-native or built the way Goethe/DELF/DELE are, and Lerniyo doesn't offer exam prep for either. What Lerniyo does offer is our own CEFR-referenced curriculum and progress checks, so you always know roughly where you stand — just not as a stand-in for an official certification.
Frequently asked questions
Is MSA the same as the Arabic used in the Quran?
Very close, but not identical — the Quran is written in Classical Arabic, the historical form Modern Standard Arabic descends from. Strong MSA reading skills (roughly B1-B2 and up) get you most of the way to reading the Quran with real understanding; Lerniyo's C1 level goes further into classical texts specifically.
Do I need MSA if I already speak Darija?
Darija is the spoken, everyday Moroccan dialect; MSA is the shared formal, written register used across every Arabic-speaking country. They're related, and Darija speakers recognize real chunks of MSA vocabulary — but reading, writing, and speaking Fusha fluently is a separate, structured skill.
Will Lerniyo prepare me for an official MSA exam?
No — there isn't a standardized one the way there is for German or French. Lerniyo teaches the language itself, with our own CEFR-referenced curriculum and progress checks along the way.
